Whenever a prominent awards ceremony nears, you'll find an outcry to include fresh award types to recognize underappreciated efforts and delight the hearts of followers dedicated to specific genres.
My colleague made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. The same goes for board games, representing a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward just as with other single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case supporting my request stands as crucial above others. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and typically start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why cinema institutions don’t do it. But it is an unavoidable compromise in the world of gaming, which are so diverse they barely qualify a single creative category.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.
Existing Game Classification System
Leading game ceremonies presently include award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories effectively encompass many game types, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.
Not so for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to put them. Think about these outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Which classification works within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Acknowledgment Issues
Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games released every year without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.
- A renowned logic title got overlooked in any category that year
- A different innovative game was excluded that year
- Well-received sorting experience was overlooked in 2021
- Limited numbers of puzzle games scraped into independent or mobile categories
Importance of Logic Titles
Commonly they're small games, yet the craft in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles count as the most-played games globally and have been for an extended period.
The iconic tile-matching title competes with popular creative games competing to become best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and engaging across multiple categories.
The Solution and Justification
Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. It would be easy to populate five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.
Restating the point, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Logic title developers function at the hard edge of video game design, creating some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay generations.
