Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his first trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has experienced a torrid year, managing just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in especial - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with former coach Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and Goetzke, he has steadily improved in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought three-set victory over opponent Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's first trophy following the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt since that period of that year.

Success also signifies he has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one different competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is particularly special," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six title deciders, including in the German tournament previously this season.

His retrieving play style and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had prompted some to question if his capacity to play at the highest level was over.

But the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and perform assertively, supported by an better serve.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging opponent, taking four of the final five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players swapped break points in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour victory, took control to create a final set.

The opponent defended 4 early-game break points in a close final set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner earned the title with a rally at the net area, with his opponent unable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
